Dennis “The Worm” Rodman is no stranger to making headlines, and his latest milestone proves his legendary status extends far beyond the basketball court. According to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania, the five-time NBA champion is officially set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
While Rodman is globally recognized as a Detroit Piston and Chicago Bull, ’90s wrestling fans remember him for his unforgettable and highly disruptive crossovers into sports entertainment.
Though his pro wrestling career only consisted of four official matches, three of which took place in WCW, Rodman’s impact on the industry was massive. He made his WCW debut in 1997, fully embracing the bad-boy persona that made him a pop-culture icon.
However, his most infamous wrestling moment came a year later. In one of the most heavily discussed moves in sports history, Rodman famously skipped a mandatory Chicago Bulls practice right in the middle of the 1998 NBA Finals to appear on WCW Monday Nitro.
That iconic, unsanctioned detour set the stage for a blockbuster tag-team match where he partnered with “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan to face off against Diamond Dallas Page and his on-court NBA rival, Karl Malone.
Rodman will be taking his rightful place in the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. The WWE has a rich history of honoring pop culture and sports crossover stars, meaning Rodman will join an elite, eclectic club that includes heavyweights like Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Pete Rose, Bob Uecker, and William “The Refrigerator” Perry.
Fans looking to see “The Worm” get his wrestling flowers won’t have to wait long. The induction ceremony kicks off on April 17 in Las Vegas as part of the massive WrestleMania weekend festivities.
