Jury Duty: Company Retreat

If you spent any time on the internet last year, you are likely already familiar with the wholesome, laugh-out-loud magic of Jury Duty. The breakout documentary-style comedy captured our hearts by placing one completely oblivious, everyday guy into the middle of a fake trial surrounded by a cast of eccentric improv actors.

Now, the Emmy-nominated series is officially back for Season 2, and this time, they are trading in the judge’s gavel for watercooler gossip.

According to the newly released trailer, Jury Duty is taking its brilliant Truman Show-esque format out of the courtroom and dropping it straight into corporate America. The new season will center around an entirely new unsuspecting “hero” who believes they are participating in a standard documentary about working at a company.

What they don’t know is that their boss, their HR rep, and every single one of their quirky coworkers are paid actors working from a carefully orchestrated, heavily improvised outline.

Part of what made the first season of Jury Duty so incredibly successful was how universally relatable the mundane setting of civic duty is. The creators took a boring, everyday obligation and slowly dialed up the absurdity.

Pivoting to an office setting for Season 2 is the perfect playground to recreate that magic. Corporate culture is already ripe for parody, between bizarre team-building exercises, passive-aggressive emails, and completely unhinged company policies, the new, unsuspecting star is likely going to accept a lot of ridiculous behavior simply because “that’s just corporate life.”

The true charm of Jury Duty has always been its lack of mean-spirited prank culture. The goal isn’t to humiliate the person who isn’t in on the joke; rather, it is to test their patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills as the situations around them grow increasingly bizarre.

If Season 2 can capture even a fraction of the lightning-in-a-bottle wholesomeness of the first season, audiences are in for an absolute treat.

While we wait to see exactly what kind of workplace chaos unfolds, one thing is certain: going to the office has never looked this entertaining.
