Stranger Things is closing out its series run with a record-breaking bang. Netflix has confirmed that Stranger Things Season 5 just delivered the biggest premiere for any English-language series in the platform’s history, proving that nearly a decade after its debut, the cultural juggernaut is as strong as ever.

In the first five days following its November 26 release, the first four episodes of Season 5 amassed 59.6 million views worldwide, according to Netflix’s internal data.

That makes it the largest opening week ever for an English-language Netflix series, surpassing Wednesday Season 1’s 50.1 million views, and the second-biggest premiere for any Netflix series overall, behind only Squid Game Season 2, which earned 68 million views in its first week.

The final season also reached No. 1 in 90 out of 93 Netflix-tracked territories, underscoring the show’s global reach and decade-long staying power.

Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer released a statement sharing their gratitude and disbelief:

“The sheer number of fans who have already watched Volume 1 is staggering — the response has been more than we ever could have dreamed. The show is now a decade old, and seeing the fanbase not only endure but continue to grow has been incredibly rewarding for us, the actors, and the thousands of artists who helped bring this story to life.”

“We truly cannot thank everyone enough, and we are beyond excited to share Volume 2 — there’s so much more to come.”

Volume 2’s release is already shaping up to be one of Netflix’s biggest TV events ever.
