A high school football program in Georgia is under scrutiny after its head coach was arrested for allegedly assaulting several student-athletes.
Darius Terrell Robinson, 34, the head football coach at Greene County High School, was taken into custody this week and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of simple battery.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Robinson is accused of hitting and choking multiple minors on the team over the course of several months.
The investigation began after Greensboro police contacted the GBI for assistance on Tuesday afternoon. Robinson was later booked into the Greene County Jail.
In response to the allegations, the Greene County School System confirmed that Robinson has been removed from his coaching duties and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Superintendent Dr. Aaryn Schmuhl issued a statement emphasizing the district’s commitment to student safety:
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our first and highest priority. Upon receiving the allegation of misconduct, the administrative team at GCHS took immediate action to investigate and address the concerns in conjunction with district office staff. We will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement and appreciate their swift response to our request for their support. As this remains an active investigation, the Greene County School System will not be providing further comment at this time.”
As the investigation remains active, no additional details have been released, but both law enforcement and school officials have indicated that further updates will come as more information becomes available.
