The Los Angeles Equestrian Center transformed into a place for style, soul, and storytelling for the Black Excellence Brunch.
The ballroom welcomed guests dressed to impress in chic all-white Western-inspired attire, nodding to the iconic legacy of the Black cowboy.
The heart of the event was an exclusive conversation centered on the new Peacock docuseries High Horse: The Black Cowboy. Moderated by community-builder Trell Thomas, the panel featured Grammy Award-winning producer INK and Randy Savvy, founder of The Compton Cowboys and one of the documentary’s powerful voices.

The conversation unpacked the creative partnership that brought High Horse to life, the importance of reclaiming our erased history, and the gratitude felt by those leading the charge.
Thomas gave well-deserved flowers to those in the room, including acting legend and real-life cowboy Glynn Turman, whose decades-long commitment to uplifting the culture has earned him icon status.
High Horse: The Black Cowboy is more than a docuseries; it’s a cultural reclamation. Executive produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, the three-part project challenges Hollywood’s whitewashed portrayal of the American West and re-centers the untold stories of the Black cowboy.

Featuring a soulful original score by Raphael Saadiq, the series mixes pop culture and historical truth, revealing a legacy buried under myth.
With interviews from cultural luminaries like Bun B, Pam Grier, Tina Knowles, Blanco Brown, Rick Ross, Lynae Vanee, and The Compton Cowboys themselves, High Horse paints a vibrant portrait of resilience, resistance, and radical joy.
As seen in QG’s recent coverage, the documentary has become essential viewing. It educates while entertaining, spotlighting how Black cowboys were integral to building the West, and how modern-day riders are continuing that tradition across generations.

Between mac and cheese, collard greens, and fried chicken for brunch and toasts of celebratory drinks, the energy was infectious. Guests laughed, lined danced, and basked in the cowboy spirit.
