ABC is expanding The Rookie universe once again, and this time, Jay Ellis is stepping into the spotlight both in front of and behind the camera.
The network has officially ordered a pilot for The Rookie: North, a new spinoff of its hit police drama, with Ellis set to star in the lead role and serve as a producer.
With the pilot now greenlit, the series marks a major return to network television for Ellis.
The official logline introduces Ellis’ character, Alex Holland, a man whose midlife looks nothing like the crisis he once expected. After surviving a violent home invasion, Alex finds himself awakening to a dormant sense of purpose he can no longer ignore.
In search of redemption and something worth fighting for, he joins the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie.
From patrol shifts along urban coastlines to deep stretches of Washington’s rural forests where backup is not just around the corner, Alex must prove he belongs. That means earning the respect of his skeptical training officer, connecting with fellow rookies, and, most importantly, convincing himself that he’s finally committed to something that matters.
If the pilot delivers, The Rookie: North could easily become ABC’s next character-driven procedural hit.
