New Video Footage Contradicts Police Account in Kyren Lacy Crash Investigation

A newly released video may shift the narrative in the high-profile case involving former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who was accused of causing a deadly car crash in Louisiana last year.

A newly released video may shift the narrative in the high-profile case involving former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who was accused of causing a deadly car crash in Louisiana last year.

The footage, aired Friday by Houma TV Station HTV, appears to show that Lacy was nearly 100 yards behind the vehicles involved in the crash, challenging the initial account from investigators who said he had been weaving in front of traffic and forcing a driver to swerve.

What the Video Shows

During a 44-minute interview with HTV’s Martin Folse, Lacy’s attorney Matthew Ory argued that the video makes it clear his client could not have caused the wreck that killed Herman Hall.

Ory also highlighted body camera footage that captured a state trooper coaching a witness on what to write in their report. He further pointed to language in the District Attorney’s crash report:

“The evidence submitted in the crash report does not support that Kyren Lacy should have known that his actions were the cause of the crash that happened approximately 72 yards in front of him.”

The attorney emphasized that from the beginning, Lacy had maintained his innocence.

Background on the Case

The fatal collision occurred in January 2025 on LA Highway 20.

At the time, Louisiana State Police (LSP) alleged that Lacy’s reckless driving while passing other vehicles caused a chain reaction: a pickup truck swerved, a Kia Cadenza veered into oncoming traffic, and ultimately struck another car head-on.

Hall, a passenger in that vehicle, later died from his injuries.

Police also alleged Lacy fled the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities. He was arrested months later.

In April 2025, just weeks after his arrest, Lacy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound two days before his scheduled grand jury hearing.

LSP Response

Following the HTV report, LSP issued a statement standing by their initial investigation, which they said was based on crash reconstruction experts and available evidence at the time.

The agency noted that an arrest warrant was approved by the 17th Judicial District Court based on their findings.

They reiterated: “As with all investigations leading to arrest, the subjects of the investigation are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

What’s Next

The release of this new video has renewed scrutiny on the case, raising questions about investigative practices and whether the initial conclusions against Lacy were rushed or flawed.

For now, the HTV footage adds another layer to a tragic story that has left a community grappling with loss, controversy, and unresolved questions.
