Love is officially in the air for Senator Cory Booker. The New Jersey Democrat revealed on Instagram Tuesday afternoon that he’s engaged to girlfriend Alexis Lewis, capping off a year-and-a-half-long romance with a heartfelt announcement on social media.
“I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!” Booker, 56, wrote in his caption. “I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.”
Booker, who has often kept his personal life out of the public eye, offered a rare glimpse into his relationship in his post.
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” he shared. “She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.
The couple has been dating for about 18 months and currently shares a home in Washington, D.C. According to Booker, the partnership has not only brought him happiness but also balance amid the demands of his political career.
“We are excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us,” he wrote. “We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community lifting us in love and commitment.”
