The next chapter in the Spider-Man saga just got a lot grittier. Marvin Jones III has been tapped to play infamous crime boss Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest installment in the Marvel-Sony partnership, according to Deadline.

The casting comes as production on the film temporarily pauses after star Tom Holland reportedly suffered a concussion on set. While filming is on hold, the cast list continues to expand, and Jones’ addition brings a fan-favorite villain from page to screen in live action.

Jones is no stranger to the role. He previously voiced Tombstone in Sony’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will reprise the voice role in the highly anticipated Beyond the Spider-Verse. Now, he steps fully into the character in live action, bringing his imposing presence to a villain who has long been a thorn in Spider-Man’s side.

Also known as Lonnie Lincoln, Tombstone is one of Marvel’s most menacing crime bosses.

Created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, the hulking albino villain with filed teeth and nearly indestructible skin first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36 back in 1988.

Since then, he’s become a recurring adversary in both the comics and animated adaptations, often testing Spider-Man’s strength and resolve outside of the typical supervillain battles.

Sony has yet to release details on Tombstone’s role in the film’s plot. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to release July 31, 2026.
