Kendrick Lamar added another major accolade to his already decorated career Sunday night, winning his second Primetime Emmy at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The rapper took home the trophy for Outstanding Music Direction for The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar, alongside co-nominee Tony Russell.
This isn’t Lamar’s first Super Bowl-linked Emmy. Three years ago, he shared in the victory when the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, a hip-hop spectacular featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and 50 Cent, won Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
That moment was the first time hip-hop had been centered at America’s biggest stage, and Lamar’s solo turn at Super Bowl LIX built directly on that legacy.
With a shelf already stacked with multiple Grammys and an Academy Award for Best Original Song, Lamar is close to joining the rarefied group of artists who have achieved EGOT status (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
The only missing piece? Broadway. And if history is any guide, the Compton-born lyricist has a way of breaking barriers when people least expect it.
For fans, the Emmy is more than just a trophy; it’s recognition of Lamar’s ability to command stages of every size, from Coachella to the Oscars to the Super Bowl.
From Pulitzer Prize winner to two-time Emmy winner, Lamar is already in rare company.
