Class is officially back in session. ABC just dropped the teaser for Season 5 of Abbott Elementary, and if the sneak peek is any indication, Philly’s favorite teachers are in for another chaotic school year.
The Emmy-winning workplace comedy returns Tuesday, October 1, gearing up for more laughs, cultural nods, and heartfelt moments from Quinta Brunson and the cast.
The teaser sets the tone immediately: our Abbott staff getting pelted with apples by an overzealous student. Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) does what Barbara does best: pray through it. Ava (Janelle James) effortlessly snatches one midair with a firm, “Oh, hell no!” And Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) goes full South Philly, pulling out a baseball bat like she’s ready to take batting practice. It’s pure Abbott comedy—chaotic, physical, and character-driven.
Fans already know the cast is stepping outside the classroom this year. Last month at San Diego Comic-Con, Brunson teased a Philly sports crossover, telling fans that “Philly sports fans will be very happy.” That hint paid off: the cast was spotted filming at Citizens Bank Park during a Philadelphia Phillies game against the Braves.
The night turned out to be historic for the home team, who won 19-4, and fans were just as excited about the Abbott sighting as the scoreboard.
This crossover is no gimmick. According to Variety, the idea came from MLB Studios, who reached out to Warner Bros. and the Phillies to make it happen. With authenticity in mind, the episode is being billed as a “bottle episode” filmed on location, complete with access to the field—and yes, the Phillie Phanatic will make an appearance.

Abbott Elementary Season 5 premieres Tuesday, October 1, at 9/8c on ABC, with episodes streaming next day on Hulu.
