Audiences at the advance screening of The Long Walk were treated to more than just Stephen King’s chilling first-written novel brought to life. Country star Shaboozey gave a surprise of his own, debuting the film’s original end-credit track, Took a Walk.
Before the lights dimmed, Shaboozey shared his love for King’s work and the inspiration behind the song. He spoke candidly about his songwriting process and how the story’s themes of endurance and survival pushed him to explore new creative depths. The artist also highlighted his collaboration with singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr., who joins him on the duet.
Directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games franchise) and adapted from King’s first-written novel, The Long Walk follows 100 teenage boys forced to compete in a brutal contest: they must walk continuously without rest, under strict rules, until only one remains alive. Part dystopian thriller and part psychological drama, the story probes loyalty, pain, and the human will to survive.
The premiere crowd was among the first to experience Took a Walk against the backdrop of Lawrence’s gripping vision. The song’s lyrics and raw emotion serve as the perfect companion to a film that dares audiences to confront one unsettling question: How far could you go?
Took a Walk will be available on all digital platforms beginning September 5, just ahead of The Long Walk’s nationwide release in theaters September 12.
