The workplace comedy that redefined awkward stares and staplers in Jell-O is back—well, sort of. Peacock has officially dropped the trailer and first-look images for The Paper, the highly anticipated spinoff of The Office. Slated to premiere September 4, the series will drop two episodes every Thursday through September 25.
Melvin Gregg (Snowfall) is now taking his comedic chops to the mockumentary world. While details of his role are still being kept quiet, Gregg’s presence in the trailer signals that he’s stepping into a major spotlight.
Set far from Scranton, The Paper follows a documentary crew —the same one that shadowed Dunder Mifflin —who now find themselves chronicling the daily chaos of The Truth Teller, a struggling yet historic newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, as it tries to stay afloat in the digital era. Think ink-stained fingers, broken fax machines, and Gen Z interns who don’t know what a fax machine is.
In the trailer, Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) are seen steering the ship of this quirky newsroom, delivering deadpan one-liners and navigating dysfunction with the same dry humor that made The Office iconic.
And yes, Oscar Nuñez returns as the ever-snarky Oscar Martinez, but this time, he’s not crunching numbers in accounting. He’s part of the newspaper’s new chapter, bringing some much-needed nostalgia along with it.
From the minds of The Office co-creator Greg Daniels and comedy heavyweight Michael Koman (SNL, Late Night with Conan O’Brien), the series promises sharp writing and character-driven chaos. And it doesn’t stop with the main cast. The Paper‘s ensemble includes Gbemisola Ikumelo, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Sabrina Impacciatore, Tim Key, and Alex Edelman.
And while the trailer is light on plot specifics, it teases enough tension, awkward stares, and offbeat banter to confirm that this show is fully leaning into The Office DNA, just with fresher ink and more Wi-Fi issues.
While Peacock hasn’t spilled the full character bio yet, Gregg’s character is a reporter and does ad sales. From the shots in the trailer, he’s delivering side-eyes, trading barbs, and exuding that “I didn’t sign up for this” energy that Office fans love.
The show’s premiere strategy—two episodes weekly—feels like a smart move to build hype and keep viewers engaged without the full binge model. For fans of character-driven comedy and workplace absurdity, this one feels like a no-brainer.
The Paper premieres Thursday, September 4, on Peacock.
