Glynn Turman is finally getting his spot on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Thursday, July 10, at 11:30 AM PT, the Emmy Award-winning actor, director, and cultural icon will be honored with the 2,816th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony will celebrate Turman’s contributions to the film industry under the Motion Pictures category.

Hosted by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Steve Nissen, the celebration will also feature heartfelt tributes from filmmaker Ava DuVernay and actor Don Cheadle, both of whom have collaborated with Turman and share deep admiration for his impact on the industry.

Turman’s star is more than a career milestone; it’s a symbol of decades of excellence, perseverance, and cultural influence.

“Glynn’s exceptional talents and dedication to the craft of acting have left an indelible mark on the industry… His star will be next to his friend Sidney Poitier’s star, whom he performed with on Broadway in 1959.” Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame, said.

That performance? It was A Raisin in the Sun, and Turman was just 12 years old, starring opposite Poitier and Ruby Dee in the original Broadway production. Since then, Turman’s career has spanned the stage, television, and film, encompassing an extraordinary body of work that has helped shape Black storytelling in Hollywood.

After graduating from New York’s prestigious High School of Performing Arts, Turman cut his teeth in regional theater before heading west to Los Angeles in the 1970s. There, he built a legendary résumé that includes Peyton Place, Cooley High, A Different World, and a long list of critically acclaimed performances.

Turman won an Emmy Award in 2008 for In Treatment and earned another nomination in 2019 for How to Get Away with Murder. He’s also received multiple NAACP Image Awards, a Los Angeles Film Critics Award, and nominations from the Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and Film Independent Spirit Awards.

While many actors might slow down, Turman has only picked up speed. He’s delivered standout performances in FX’s Fargo, Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar, Women of the Movement, and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Younger audiences know him as Chiron in Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and he’s also appeared in Black Cake on Hulu.

On the big screen, Turman has been a force in projects like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Rustin, The Way Back, Tyler Perry’s Straw, and Kevin Costner’s upcoming epic Horizon.

Outside of Hollywood, Turman is just as impressive. A skilled horseman and real-life Black cowboy, he’s competed in rodeo competitions for over 35 years. In 1999, he won California’s Regional Team Roping Finals and ranked in the top five at the National U.S. Team Roping Championships.

Turman and his wife, Jo-An, also run a ranch in Lake Hughes and co-founded Camp Gid D Up in 1992—a free, non-profit summer camp that brings a western experience to inner-city and at-risk youth.

From Broadway to the backlot, from rope to rodeo, Glynn Turman’s journey has been one for the books. And now, his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame isn’t just a recognition of his work, it’s a permanent tribute to a career built on passion, purpose, and power.
