In a world where celebrities are constantly online and fans expect 24/7 access, Michael B. Jordan is taking a different route, and it turns out, he got the blueprint from none other than Denzel Washington.
In a new interview with New York Magazine, Jordan opened up about why he keeps his personal life on the low and his social media presence even lower. It’s all part of a strategy he picked up from Washington, one of his mentors and longtime inspirations.
“Why would they pay to see you on a weekend if they see you all week for free?” Jordan said, echoing Washington’s advice like gospel.
The quote speaks volumes. In a time when stars often feel pressured to share every moment, Jordan’s approach is intentional. Less is more. Mystery still sells.
Even though he’s one of the most recognizable actors in the industry, thanks to roles in Creed, Black Panther, and now Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller Sinners, Jordan has managed to keep a tight lid on his personal life. Aside from his very public relationship (and breakup) with Lori Harvey, the Sinners star hasn’t given the internet much to dissect. And that’s by design.
He explained that keeping parts of his life private “creates a demand.”
Jordan’s feature in New York Magazine dropped just as Sinners continues to dominate pop culture and box office conversations. His dual performance in the film as twin brothers Smoke and Stack has earned him some of the best reviews of his career.
It’s something Denzel Washington perfected long before social media existed. And now, with Jordan following in his footsteps, it’s proof that some advice never goes out of style.
