Mahershala Ali is just as eager as fans are to finally see Blade slash his way back onto the big screen. While promoting his new film Jurassic World: Rebirth at its New York City premiere, the two-time Oscar winner didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the Marvel room: what’s going on with Blade?

Ali, who was announced as the iconic vampire hunter way back in 2019, has been stuck in superhero limbo ever since. With multiple release date changes, directors exiting, and script rewrites piling up, the Blade reboot has become one of Marvel’s most delayed and mysterious projects. But one thing’s certain: Mahershala is still locked in.

“I’m just taking it a day at a time. I’m doing the best work I can,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet. “I would love for Blade to happen, we’ll see. I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am.”

When speaking with Variety, Ali got even more direct, saying, “Call Marvel! I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.”

It’s a sentiment that echoes what fans have been saying for years. With Wesley Snipes’ original Blade trilogy still considered a cult classic, Marvel’s announcement of Ali in the role brought excitement and high expectations, but that was six years ago.

Since then, Blade has cycled through at least five screenwriters, lost multiple directors (including Bassam Tariq and, most recently, Yann Demange), and been bounced around the release calendar like a cursed artifact.

Despite the behind-the-scenes chaos, Ali has stayed sharp. “I just did a movie called Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother that I’m very excited about,” he told THR. “I got to scratch my stunt itch — got to do some sword work. It’s a wonderful story.”

The Marvel vampire-hunting saga might be stalled for now, but Ali’s message couldn’t be clearer: he’s still committed, still passionate, and still more than ready to step into the black leather trench coat and shades.

So, Marvel — what are we waiting for?
