The kitchen is heating up again, The Bear is back at the end of this month, and this time, stars Ayo Edebiri and Lionel Boyce are stepping behind the camera as well.
FX’s hit dramedy series has become known for its raw intensity, brilliant performances, and layered storytelling. And with Season 4 dropping June 25, fans can expect another helping of high-stakes drama and culinary chaos, with a new twist: Ayo and Lionel co-wrote one of this season’s episodes.
“I also wrote an episode of The Bear this season. I co-wrote it with Lionel [Boyce]. It’s been very fun feeling that other part of my brain turning on again and knowing that all the cogs are still in working order,” said Edebiri in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Edebiri, who plays sous chef Sydney, has always been a triple threat—writer, comic, actor—and it’s no surprise that she’s bringing her voice to the writers’ room. And Boyce, who plays the lovable pastry chef Marcus, is no stranger to writing himself, having co-created Loiter Squad with Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt back in the day.
The co-written episode is one of many things to look forward to in the upcoming season. Season 3 ended on a tense note with Sydney spiraling over her place in the restaurant, and the Season 4 trailer promises more challenges as the team faces a rough critic’s review, money troubles, and the same kitchen pressure that’s defined the show from the start.
All 10 episodes of Season 4 will be served up at once on June 25, so get ready to binge, and keep an eye out for the Edebiri-Boyce episode.
