Tony Todd’s legacy lives on in Final Destination: Bloodlines. The actor, who sadly passed away in November 2024 at the age of 69, left a mark on the horror world with his iconic role as William Bludworth in the Final Destination franchise.
Todd’s character has become a fan favorite since the original Final Destination hit theaters 25 years ago. Now, Bludworth is making his return in the latest installment of the franchise, Bloodlines.
In a behind-the-scenes video, co-director Adam Stein shared the immense respect that Todd commanded on set.
“When Tony Todd first came on set, there was sort of a hush that fell over all of the cast and crew,” Stein said. “Having this legendary figure come onto set and reprise his role as Bludworth—he brought this incredible gravity to the part.”
Todd reflected on his character’s impact on the franchise. “People love the franchise,” he said. “This is one of the few films that I’ve been able to return to more than once. The more you do a character, the more you understand it. I love Bludworth—he’s a very interesting, enigmatic personality.”
Bludworth’s role in the Final Destination saga has always been shrouded in mystery. Appearing in almost every installment (except the fourth one), Bludworth has left fans questioning his true nature. “Is he an angel? Is he a devil? Who is this guy?” asked Stein, with co-director Zach Lipovsky adding, “Death itself?”
Producer Craig Perry revealed that Bloodlines would finally answer these burning questions. “We’ve always avoided answering the question because it’s nice to keep it a mystery, but we heard the fans,” he said. “In this movie, we answer those questions.”
Perry added that Bloodlines would explore Bludworth’s connection to the franchise’s core, revealing his true identity and origin.
Final Destination: Bloodlines takes fans back to the beginning of Death’s twisted justice. The movie follows college student Stefanie, who is plagued by a violent recurring nightmare. Determined to break the cycle, she returns home to seek out the one person who may be able to save her family from the gruesome fate that awaits them.
Tony Todd himself continues to be an unforgettable presence, even after his passing.
“Bludworth spends 80 percent of his life in a morgue,” he shares in the video. “I’m used to the dead, and I’m used to strange occurrences and the paranormal. I know who’s gonna make it, who’s not gonna make it. Bludworth has always been interested in the reason why we’re repeating this cycle. Will it ever be escaped? We shall see.”
Final Destination: Bloodlines hits theaters on May 16.
