Lamont Roach Jr. is ready for the rematch.

Fresh off the controversial decision in his last bout, Roach is locked in and laser-focused on a second showdown with Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

“The rematch with Gervonta Davis is next. It’s going to be this summer,” Roach told The Quintessential Gentleman. “I just can’t wait to put on another show for the fans. Despite what happened in the last fight… I get another shot, another chance to give a good showing to the people who support me, and to the people who don’t.”

Don’t expect him to switch up his approach, either. Confidence, for Roach, isn’t optional; it’s essential.

“I’ve always been confident. I’ve never been cocky and of that, but I know what I can do. I will never doubt myself,” he said. “The only thing that’s going to be different is that I’m going to be better.”

But boxing is only part of Roach’s story.

At just 29, Lamont Roach Jr. is not only a world-class fighter but also a father and the product of a strong lineage. His father, Lamont Sr., not only introduced him to the sport but continues to train and manage him to this day.

“My dad is amazing,” Roach said. “He’s a fine example of what a man should be. I commend him for that… He stands on code, stands on morals, and stands on principles. He instills that in me.”

In a world where two-parent households are still not the norm in many communities, Roach says he feels incredibly blessed.

“I don’t think I have friends who have both their parents in their lives,” he shared. “So when people come around my dad, it’s like he is a father figure to a lot of my friends.”

Now, Roach is applying those same values as a father to his own son.

Roach recalls his dad telling him that his birth changed his life, and now, he can relate.

“When my son was born, it changed my life,” he said. “It’s not just about you anymore. Every day, I carry that mindset. I do my best job to make sure he knows his daddy’s there for him.”

Being a professional athlete is demanding, but Roach has been training like one since the age of nine. “It ain’t no off season for boxers,” he said. “When I get in training camp, it’s hard. I put my body through hell.”

His training camp is grueling and typically lasts around eight to ten weeks as he prepares for a fight, but he laces up his boots and gets to work.

He’s quick to shut down the glamorized Hollywood version of boxing. “It’s dramatic, but then again, it’s a lot of stuff that you don’t see,” Roach shared. “It’s a movie, so they don’t go too deep into detail about how a fighter has to sacrifice.”

But he does share that recent movies have shown the sacrifices fighters make, “being away from their family for that period of time. The diet. The weight loss.”

As someone who lives the life daily, Roach has strong words of advice for up-and-coming fighters:

Stay consistent. “Nobody can deny hard work.”

Block out distractions. “The fun will always be there after.”

Have confidence. “You won’t beat anyone if you don’t believe you belong.”

He also had a little fun when asked about his rising star power, particularly with fans, and especially the ladies.

“Damn, I’m a heartthrob now? I gotta put that on my list of accolades!” he joked. “But seriously, I work for this. I embrace everything that comes with the grind.”

Boxing runs deep in the Roach household, literally. His younger brother, Jordan Roach, recently stepped into the sport as well. “He tried football once and said, ‘I’m done.’ He didn’t like having to rely on others… Boxing gives you full control.”

For Roach, it’s clear—boxing isn’t just a career. It’s a legacy built on discipline, respect, and family. “The biggest lesson my dad gave me? Be a man of principles. Be a man of morals. Carry yourself well. That’ll take you a long way.”

And with the Davis rematch looming and fatherhood grounding him more than ever, Lamont Roach Jr. is walking into this next chapter with clarity, heart, and no doubt about who he is or what he came to do.

“Whether Gervonta changes or not, I’m still the same me,” he said. “Only better.”

We’ll be watching.
