After years of anticipation and a substantial delay, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is officially back on the calendar. At CinemaCon, Sony Pictures Animation and Marvel have announced that the third chapter in the animated trilogy will hit theaters on June 4, 2027.
Originally slated for a March 29, 2024, Beyond the Spider-Verse was delayed indefinitely in July 2023 due to the dual Hollywood strikes and the complexity of the film’s production. Much of the delay stemmed from unfinished voiceover work, with many of the cast unavailable to record due to the SAG-AFTRA work stoppage.
And as anyone familiar with the Spider-Verse franchise knows, these aren’t your average animated movies—they are visual masterpieces that push the boundaries of the medium, each frame bursting with style, texture, and artistic innovation.
The previous installments—Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023)—have both been critical and commercial triumphs. The first film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, while the sequel earned an Oscar nomination of its own and left fans on the edge of their seats. Together, the two films have grossed over $1.08 billion worldwide, redefining what’s possible in animated superhero storytelling.
Beyond the Spider-Verse will pick up directly where Across the Spider-Verse left off. The cliffhanger ending saw Miles Morales trapped in an alternate universe—one without a Spider-Man—where his counterpart has become the vigilante known as The Prowler.
As this darker, dystopian version of New York City threatens to swallow him whole, Miles’ allies, including Gwen Stacy and the newly formed team of Spider-heroes, are scrambling to mount a rescue mission. But whether they’ll get to him in time remains to be seen.
During a recent sneak peek presentation, filmmakers teased that this installment will push both Miles and his allies to their limits.
