Black Community And Its Leaders React to Shocking Incident at Trump's Pennsylvania Rally
We all know the presidential election is on the horizon, as current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are currently campaigning, fighting for who will be the next president in 2024.
But one of the more tasteless situations happened: While Trump was campaigning in Butler, Pennsylvania Saturday evening, it appears gunshots were fired, resulting in Trump grabbing for his ear that looked to be blood. It also appears his security team shielded him for the time being.
But before they were to escort him off stage, he paused for a minute, looked in the camera and pumped his fist just before being taken off stage.
Hours later, a video comes out of what appears to be a person lounging on the top of a building, and as the video progresses, it looks to be that person is laid out. Sources have confirmed that the shooter, later confirmed as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, was neutralized, and one other bystander was killed.
Numerous outlets are reporting it was an assassination attempt, something that hasn’t happened since 2018 when pipe bombs were mailed by Cesar Sayoc Jr. “to a number of leading Democrats, including former President Obama, former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and future President Joe Biden. No one was harmed, according to Politico.
There are a lot of reactions to the disarray. Here are some from the Black community from X:
Former President Barack Obama
“There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”
Sports analyst Jemele Hill
“I’ve made it clear how I feel about Donald Trump as a leader and as a person, but I strongly condemn what happened to him today. That should never happen. It’s a stain on our country if we can’t resolve issues without resorting to violence.”
Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III
“There is NO WAY IN HELL President Donald Trump should have been shot at his Presidential Campaign Rally. Fire the security detail leader and pray for the family of the audience member who died.”
Rapper 50 cent
“I know the vibes we are all in trouble now !”
Alpha Phi Alpha journalist Roland Martin
“I am watching the worst of people from all political persuasions in the aftermath of today’s shooting. This is the moment to have a sense of humanity, decency and morality. No form of violence is acceptable. All of it must be condemned.”
Comedian and political analyst DL Hughley
“Trump ain't the first Felon to get shot at! #TeamDl”
Activist Al Sharpton
”Let’s pray for the family of the deceased and the wounded including former President Donald Trump and their families. We should pray for our nation at this moment and the days ahead.
We should not tolerate political violence or celebrate any harm to ANYONE despite our political differences. Our differences should be solved by ballots not bullets.
Let’s not give into any wild conspiracy theories or speculation. Let’s urge a thorough investigation.
This is a sad day in this nation.
We should unite in condemning any violence no matter our political leanings.”
New York Mayor Eric Adams
“No one should be the victim of gun violence.
No one.
Today, in Pennsylvania, we witnessed once again the danger of guns in the hands of violent extremists. We must do better for all Americans.”
