Yesterday’s Tomorrow Conference Inspired the Next Generation on MLK Day

The Cam Kirk Foundation hosts its fourth annual Yesterday’s Tomorrow Conference MLK Jr. Day 2023. The one-of-a-kind MLK Day community initiative was designed to inspire the next generations of doers while offering valuable guidance from prominent figures changing the narrative and doing the work.

“The city of Atlanta has a significant impact on activism and Black businesses, spearheaded by millennials, whose influence is attracting national recognition,” said The Cam Kirk Foundation via press release. “The Black Metropolis stands on the foundations established by leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

The Atlanta-based conference featured panel discussions on business, art, fashion, music, and community aimed at solutions and support. Conference guests heard from several notable speakers straight from the “A”. Speakers included Entertainment Lawyer Aurielle Brooks, Directors of Art and Photography for Black Fashion Fair Donte Maurice and Ahmad Barber, A&R for Quality Control Music and Media Personality Wayno and social justice activist and viral sensation Lynae Vanee.

"Sometimes we don't have the support system we need because we are too busy chasing the support system we want," shared Vanee.

Conference founder, Cam Kirk, an Atlanta-based photographer, creative studio owner, and Hip-Hop preservationist is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s principles of inclusion, which fuels Kirk’s commitment to service. “Representation is the key to advancing underrepresented social groups,” said The Cam Kirk Foundation via press release. “It is one of the reasons why The Yesterday's Tomorrow Conference exists and is associated with MLK Day.”

The free conference was open to the public, allowing attendees to participate in a day of community service. "The idea to create a space for learning, teaching, giving back, connection and community is always important and needed so much more," said panelist Ahmad Barber.
