ImageNation Celebrates Black Anime Makers and Writers With Black Anime Con



New York City’s ImageNation will celebrate the 20th anniversary of ImageNation Outdoors with a one-day festival called Black Anime Con. The event will take place in Brooklyn’s Von King Park on Sunday, August 28th, and is being co-presented by the City Parks Department.



The ImageNation Black Anime Con will feature Black anime makers, writers, voice actors, musicians and people who recognize Black culture in anime. There will be live music performances, an outdoor movie screening, the Black Anime Market and Black Anime CosPlay at the festival.



ImageNation has hosted film screenings, live music performances, festivals and other cultural events for more than 150,000 attendees since it was established in 1997 by Moikgantsi Kgama and Gregory Gates. ImageNation has hosted events throughout New York including in the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the world-famous Apollo Theater, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Harvard University and in New York City Parks. Celebrity talent such as Spike Lee, Lee Daniels, Stanley Nelson and Ava Duvernay have made appearances at ImageNation events in the past.
