Universal Pictures Releases 'The Bad Guys' Trailer

Dreamworks Animation will be bringing a film adaptation of the New York Times bestselling author Aaron Blabey's Scholastic book series The Bad Guys to the big screen this April.

The film features the voices of Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell, Craig Robinson, Awkwafina, Marc Maron, Anthony Ramos, and Richard Ayoade. Zazie Beetz, Lilly Singh, and Emmy winner Alex Borstein also co-star in the film. The Bad Guys is produced by Damon Ross and Rebecca Huntley with Blabey, Etan Cohen, and Patrick Hughes as executive producers. Kung Fu Panda animator Pierre Perifel will be making his feature film directorial debut on the project.

The Bad Guys follow the story of when a gang of animal friends who are considered criminal outlaws must abide by the law to stay out of prison. Amongst the group is dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), the chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), aka “Webs.”

After years of performing heists and becoming the world's most wanted villains the gang is apprehended but in order to avoid prison time Mr. Wolf makes a deal to keep them out of prison. With mentorship from Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), an arrogant (but adorable) guinea pig, The Bad Guys set out to fool the world that they’ve been transformed. However, Mr. Wolf begins to have a change of heart and has new feelings that doing good for real may give him what he’s always secretly longed for; acceptance. The gang is challenged when a new villain threatens the city, and Mr. Wolf is tested on can he persuade the rest of the gang to become … The Good Guys?

The Bad Guys will be released on April 22. Check out the trailer below:
