Kahama Wainwright Adds a Touch of Security with MiFinger
Over the last year, our everyday existence has been forever changed thanks to the unfortunate introduction of the coronavirus. Our new normal has been filled with masks, sanitizer, and for most people, gloves.
In 2013, Kahama Wainwright created MiFinger, the game-changing idea that protects your fingertips but little did he know that his vision would help accommodate a change in the world. Kahama is a father, Marine Corps vet, athlete, securities expert, and former fashion major and that's just to name a few. Around the age of 11 years old, he got his first job working at a local golf course. After an 8 hour shift, he would receive his tip of $20 and it was at that point he understood that his time was much more valuable than other people thought.
Throughout his life, Kahama has certainly had his share of adversities but during his time in the Marine Corps, one of the things he prided himself on learning was discipline. This discipline would be a part of what allowed him to stay motivated through the years. "Everyone has a story of adversity and the goal in life is to overcome your adversity. As a man, you are defined by how you face adversity and who you are in the midst of that storm. We all face something, we don't need to have all of the answers to get over whatever we're facing. We just know that we have to stand, have faith and in that faith always be moving, working, or doing something small. We all have 24 hours in a day, always be accomplishing something that will lead you to your goal," says Kahama.
Not shy about his journey, he had his share of issues along the way. "As an entrepreneur, yours going to run into people with an opinion. If that was the case they would have created your product. It's really about you moving in the direction. You don't have to have all of the answers. At the end of the day, you'll be known if your product reaches the target. Don't let anyone get in your car and lead you in a direction you didn't intend to go," he shares.
During an event he attended some years back, there was an iPad passed around for the guests to use. Chatting with a lady working the event, they talked about how nasty the device was and her constantly trying to clean it. At that time the idea for MiFinger was birthed with hopes of creating a product that allowed people to feel safe in often unsanitary situations.
MiFinger is a disposable finger pad that uses a durable protective film that is armed with an antimicrobial, scratch, abrasion and chemical resistant hard coat. It's user-friendly and it actually works. It's that needed layer of protection for any and every public interactive device that you may use. During his 8-year creation process, the Baltimore native had the opportunity to utilize all of his background including fashion to learn about the products he would use to create the product the market would one day receive.
If creating a product that is being used by the masses wasn't enough to keep Kahama busy, he is also a father of four. "Growing up without a father, what I've learned about fatherhood is your word and your presence is more important than anything. Your word must match your presence. It's my responsibility to show up and stand so when they look they see that they have a strong father and they can stand on my shoulders. My children can stand upon my shoulders and accomplish their dreams," he shares.
