The Iconic Movie “The Best Man” is Back With a New Limited Series on Peacock

If you know me, then you know! Now you may be asking, what in the world is he talking about (laughs)! I am talking about the phenomenal movie that had us laughing, in deep thought, and of course crying over the sad death of one of the cast members in the movie. I’m talking none other than The Best Man. This movie has such an eye-catching storyline that draws you in from start to finish. The movie follows Harper (Taye Diggs) and his group of friends from college who are on a relationship journey like no other. From his best friend and football star Lance (Morris Chestnut) getting married to the love of his life Mia (Monica Calhoun) to Harper figuring out if he should spill the beans about his book uncovering the truth about his and Mia’s past. It’s a whirlwind, but it's worth every second of watching. The movie went on to have a sequel made, The Best Man: Holiday, which captured the joy of the holidays and got the team back together for love and drama. All the while, Mia is suffering from cancer, which eventually takes her life.

Well, that’s all about that movie, the amazing thing is that they‘re back! Peacock has ordered 10 episodes of the limited dramedy series The Best Man: Final Chapters from Universal Television, written and executive produced by Malcolm D. Lee and Dayna Lynne North. The cast is all returning including Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Harold Perrineau. I wish Monica Calhoun was coming back too, but of course, we were saddened by the death of her character.

“We're excited to reunite this beloved cast for a limited series run of ‘The Best Man’ for Peacock,” said Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming. “With a powerhouse duo like Malcolm and Dayna at the helm, fans will fall in love with our favorite group of friends all over again.”

The series will catch up with characters Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as their relationships evolve and past grievances come up again in the unpredictable stages of life.

I don’t know about you all, but this is going to be one for the books. I mean, how often do you see past movies come back and do a whole limited series?! The last time I saw this, Soul Food the movie became a 5-season series on Showtime. Let’s hope The Best Man limited series is successful and has us back on our couches drawn in like we were back in 1999 and 2013!
