2017 Met Gala Menswear

Every year we tune into social media to see what our favorite celebrities are wearing at the Met Gala. Most of the attention is given to the ladies as they wear their elaborate and ornate pieces. Of course, at the Quintessential Gentleman, we are interested in what the guys wore on the cream carpet. While some guys played it safe others ventured into the Avant-Garde and the unique.

Migos

Let’s start with the Migos, you know the most popular rap trio in the world. The Atlanta rap group are the first rappers to perform at the exclusive event. The “Bad and Boujee” boys wore black suits that were tailored to perfection. They accessorized with sunglasses and statement chains stacked around their necks. Now we know what Offset meant when he said “My diamond’s a choker”.

Sean Combs aka Diddy brought the Avant-Garde that is expected at the Met Gala. Whether or not you loved or hated his look we respect his choice to be daring. The hip-hop mogul wore a black and white three piece suit with a white “sunburst” print. His date for the night was his longtime beau, singer Cassie, who he sat down on the steps as onlookers gushed at her black statement dress.

Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas played it safe but at the same time went for it with his suit jacket. The “Jealous” singer wore an art deco jacket which played into the theme of innovation when it comes to Met Gala fashions. While the singer looked dapper we still give Diddy credit for most Avant-Garde menswear of the night.

When Diplo is not busy Dj’ing and producing hit records for your favorite artists, he is on the cream carpet at the Met Gala rocking Thom Browne. The black three-piece suit was simple, cropped, and tailored just right for this cool dude. The slicked back hair brought the look completely together.

Who other than Pharrell Williams would do it just right actually wearing CdG? While the multitalented artist didn’t wear Avant-Garde we were here for his streetwear. Williams kept it fresh wearing a black leather jacket with cool zipper details in tow, a red and white plaid shirt, cropped distressed jeans, classic white socks and burgundy Dr. Martens. Williams was accompanied by his wife who wore a red outfit that matched his cool.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was Rei Kawakubo/ Commes des Garcons. This was the first exhibit at the museum in over 30 years to focus on a living designer. The last time this occurred was in 1983 when Yves Saint Laurent was the muse.

Tell us which menswear looks you liked most from the big night.
