MGM+ announced that its crime drama, Godfather of Harlem, will wrap up its epic run with a special two-hour series finale instead of a traditional fifth season. Production is scheduled to kick off on July 10 at the show’s regular Brooklyn sets, bringing the cast and crew back to New York City to put a definitive exclamation point on the blockbuster saga.

According to the official logline from MGM+, the feature-length finale will see Bumpy Johnson facing his ultimate reckoning as the walls rapidly close in on his criminal empire. With a barrage of political, criminal, and personal enemies converging from every possible direction, Bumpy will have to lean heavily on every alliance, sacrifice, and hard-knock lesson he has racked up over the course of the show’s run to protect his empire and the people he loves.

Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker will step back into the fedora one last time, pulling double duty as both the series star and executive producer. He won’t be alone for this final chapter, either; the blockbuster finale is set to feature the return of the show’s core ensemble cast, including Ilfenesh Hadera as Mayme Thatcher Johnson, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy as Elise Johnson, Erik LaRay Harvey as Del Chance, and Rome Flynn as Frank Lucas.

MGM+ has noted that special guest star casting for the massive television event will be announced at a later date.

“Playing Bumpy Johnson has been one of the greatest experiences of my career,” Whitaker said in a statement. “This character, this story, and this ensemble have allowed me to explore the complexity of a man caught between ambition, loyalty, and survival. I’m grateful to Michael Wright and MGM+, Chris Brancato, 20th Television, Amazon, the entire creative team, and our extraordinary cast for exceptional collaboration.”

Co-created by Narcos masterminds Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem has long been the crown jewel of MGM+’s original programming lineup. The series originally debuted on predecessor network Epix before its third season was strategically used to launch the network’s high-profile rebrand to MGM+ back in 2023.

While a formal streaming premiere date has yet to be locked down, the finale is highly anticipated to hit screens as a major television event.
