Class is officially dismissed at Godolkin University. Prime Video’s hit superhero college spinoff, Gen V, will not be returning for a third season. The news comes six months after the explosive Season 2 finale of the YA drama, though for eagle-eyed fans, the cancellation might not come as a total shock.
Speculation about the show’s future began swirling recently when series star Asa Germann booked a series regular role on the upcoming Paramount+ show Frisco King.
However, just because the doors are closing at GodU doesn’t mean we have seen the last of its super-powered student body.
Because of the highly integrated nature of the Vought Cinematic Universe (VCU), the story of our favorite Gen V supes is already continuing. Following the events of the Gen V Season 2 finale, where the students were recruited by Annie January (Erin Moriarty) to join the resistance against Homelander’s dictatorship, the cast is currently featured in the fifth and final season of the mothership series, The Boys.
Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, executive producers of the VCU, reassured fans that the characters’ journeys are far from over.
“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.” — Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg, Deadline reports.
Gen V originally got off to a great start, earning a quick Season 2 renewal midway through its phenomenal freshman run. We even discussed how great Gen V was compared to The Boys.
Unfortunately, the series suffered an unimaginable tragedy when star Chance Perdomo died in a motorcycle accident in March 2024 on his way to set, significantly delaying the production of the second season.
Despite the heavy loss, the cast and crew rallied to deliver a sophomore season that honored his memory and pushed the franchise’s overarching narrative forward.
While Gen V is bowing out and The Boys is preparing to wrap up its epic five-season run on May 20, Amazon is keeping the superhero franchise alive and well.
As for what is on the horizon for the VCU, fans have plenty to look forward to. Elements of the upcoming prequel spinoff Vought Rising are already being seeded in The Boys Season 5, with the new series officially slated to debut in 2027. Additionally, The Boys: Mexico, another highly anticipated spinoff, remains in active development.
While we are sad to see Gen V go, the Godolkin crew is going out swinging in the final chapter of The Boys.
