The American Black Film Festival Celebrates 30 Years with a Star-Studded Slate Featuring Courtney B. Vance, Jesse Williams, and Kountry Wayne
For three decades, the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has been the premier destination for discovering groundbreaking Black cinema and elevating global voices. Now, as the festival gears up for its 30th-anniversary celebration under the theme “Homecoming,” it is returning to Miami Beach from May 27-31.
The 2026 festival promises to be an unforgettable milestone, hosting 16 World Premieres across its Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, and Series sections. Audiences can look forward to a diverse range of stories hailing from over 10 countries, with narratives exploring everything from global identity and immigration to the complexities of cultural legacy and political history.
“As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the American Black Film Festival, this year’s slate reflects the spirit of homecoming—honoring the stories and creative vision that have shaped our legacy while welcoming a new generation of filmmakers,” said NICE CROWD President Nicole Friday in a press release.
Led by Regina King as this year’s festival ambassador, the 2026 lineup boasts an incredible array of star power and highly anticipated projects.
That’s Her: This starry romantic comedy from filmmaker Nina Lee features Kountry Wayne, Coco Jones, and Loretta Devine. The film has already generated buzz online, recently sparking a viral tweet from Lee, who revealed she was told the project’s release hinged on the success of You, Me and Tuscany, starring Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey.
The Fridge: Produced by Jamie Foxx, this emotional drama stars Marsai Martin and Courtney B. Vance. It follows a tough, queer teenager who leaves Brooklyn to spend the summer with her estranged, struggling composer father in Los Angeles, where they are forced to reconnect over a used refrigerator.
Montmartre: Jesse Williams and Ito Aghayere lead this sweeping romance. It centers on a disillusioned woman who visits the storied French district of Montmartre and finds her long-lost passion for life rekindled after falling for an eloquent tour guide.
Funny Feelings: Directed by Rhonda Baraka, this film stars Vena “Pretty Vee” Excell and Tristan “Mack” Wilds as a comedy duo whose electric “are-they-or-aren’t-they” chemistry is put to the ultimate test when a career-defining special unravels their act on a viral stage.
