Award-winning rapper and star of Netflix’s Supacell Ghetts (real name Justin Clarke-Samuel) has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. The sentencing, delivered at the Old Bailey on March 3, follows a hit-and-run incident in October 2025 that claimed the life of 20-year-old university student Yubin Tamang.

The court heard a “simply shocking” account of the night of October 18, 2025. Clarke-Samuel, 41, was driving his black BMW M5 through North London after a night out when he struck Tamang. According to prosecutors, the rapper’s driving leading up to the collision was nothing short of reckless, as he was clocked doing 67 mph in a 30 mph zone at the moment of impact.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Clarke-Samuel was significantly impaired, testing at 1.5 times the legal drink-drive limit after consuming several glasses of brandy. CCTV footage further illustrated a pattern of dangerous behavior, showing the vehicle running six red lights and repeatedly veering onto the wrong side of the road before the crash occurred.

The tragedy was compounded by the rapper’s actions immediately following the collision. After hitting Tamang, who was crossing a street in Ilford, Clarke-Samuel failed to stop or render any aid. Instead, he drove the remaining eight miles to his home, where he was eventually arrested the following morning.

Tragically, Yubin Tamang, a Nepalese student who had moved to the UK to pursue his education, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital two days later.

During the trial, Clarke-Samuel’s defense argued that the rapper was suffering from a “heightened state of fear” after previously being robbed at gunpoint, suggesting he believed he was being followed. However, Judge Mark Lucraft KC noted there was no evidence of a pursuit on CCTV.

In a letter read to the court, the On Purpose, With Purpose artist expressed deep remorse: “I write from a place of extreme regret, shame, and remorse… I want Mr. Tamang’s family to know that I am so truly sorry. I offer no excuses.”

Beyond the 12-year custodial sentence, Clarke-Samuel has been disqualified from driving for 17 years. The conviction effectively ends his involvement in the Netflix series Supacell, where he played the character “Krazy.” While his character’s fate was left somewhat ambiguous at the end of Season 1, production sources have confirmed he will not return for Season 2.
