When you have one of the most iconic voices in cinematic history, people are going to ask you to read things, usually profound things about the human spirit or the vastness of the cosmos. But during a recent visit to The View, Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman proved he’s a good sport by lending his legendary baritone to something a bit more… digital.
While promoting his latest collaboration with Steven Spielberg, a massive four-part Netflix docuseries titled The Dinosaurs, Freeman was asked by host Sara Haines with a special request. She wanted him to narrate the latest viral sensation: Punch, the baby macaque who has taken the internet by storm.
If you haven’t been on social media lately, Punch is a baby monkey at a zoo in Japan who became a global underdog story. The viral clip features the tiny macaque struggling to find his footing among the older, more aggressive monkeys in his enclosure.
A young, abandoned monkey named Punch went viral this month after he was filmed clinging to the stuffed toy that he had been given as a "surrogate mother."

Now, Punch is gradually building up his social skills. He's been spotted climbing on another monkey's back, and according… pic.twitter.com/2X7cb1QWMy
The heart-tugging footage shows Punch finding comfort in an unlikely place: a small orangutan plush toy from IKEA. The “viral sensation” status was solidified as millions of viewers tuned in to watch the lonely primate carry his stuffed best friend everywhere, creating a narrative of resilience and companionship that resonated across the globe.
On The View, Freeman slid into his “narrator mode.” As the footage of Punch and his IKEA plushie played, Freeman delivered a script that was equal parts touching and hilarious.
“Punch found companionship in an orangutan plush toy, from IKEA,” Freeman read. “And now, the once lonely macaque has found himself a best friend. Or, should I say, a new prime mate?”
The audience lost it when Freeman broke character to shake his head at the pun, but he finished strong with a warning to the other monkeys in the enclosure: “His name is Punch. So don’t think he won’t go King Kong on your ass.”
