Mike Colter isn’t closing the door on Luke Cage. In fact, he’s cracking it open just enough to give fans real hope. On a recent episode of Shawn Stockman’s On That Note podcast, Colter spoke about his relationship with the Marvel character and made it clear that the idea of returning to Harlem’s unbreakable hero is no longer a hard no.

For years, Colter had been firm. When Luke Cage wrapped its run on Netflix in 2018, he was ready to move on. He loved the role, but he also loved acting, and he wanted space to explore different characters and worlds. That chapter, at least publicly, felt closed.

Now? The tone has shifted. “I’ve had conversations,” Colter said carefully. “I’ve had conversations and I’ll leave it at that.”

That alone is enough to send us Marvel fans into speculation mode, but Colter didn’t stop there. He admitted that time and perspective have changed how he feels about Luke Cage. “Before I was, no. I would tell people no, no,” he explained when asked about returning into the beloved character.

Years later, after building out his career with projects like Evil and The Good Wife, and continuing to stretch as an actor, Colter says something clicked.

“But now I think to myself, I had some unfinished business there,” he said.

That phrase, “unfinished business,” hits hard for fans who still feel like Luke Cage didn’t get the full arc it deserved. And Colter agrees. He shared that he’s even talked about it with Cheo Hodari Coker, the creator and showrunner of the original series.

“I talked to Cheo about it,” Colter said. “And now I think I’ve reached a point where I’m like, we got some unfinished business.”

What’s different now isn’t just Colter’s mindset; it’s Marvel’s landscape. With Daredevil officially back, Jessica Jones returning, and Marvel Studios increasingly embracing its Netflix-era characters, the conditions feel right.

“I would say we’re in a better position to see this come into fruition faster than we think,” he added. “So yeah, we’ll see.”

For fans of Luke Cage, that might be the most encouraging update yet.
