Grab your bikes and hit the pavement, nerds. Stranger Things is officially going big screen.
Netflix has announced that the Stranger Things series finale will hit select theaters across the U.S. and Canada, giving fans a chance to experience the epic conclusion in full cinematic style.
Screenings begin December 31 at 5 p.m. PT, the same time the finale drops globally on Netflix, and will continue through January 1, 2026, in more than 350 theaters.
“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years,” creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement. “Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
The move comes as somewhat of a surprise after Netflix’s chief creative officer Bela Bajaria, previously said the finale wouldn’t get a theatrical release. But clearly, plans have changed.
It’s a fitting conclusion for a show that’s defined the streaming era.
Season 5 of Stranger Things picks up in the fall of 1987, with Hawkins still reeling from the rifts that tore open its reality. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and the rest of the gang reunite to face their greatest threat yet, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), whose whereabouts and plans remain unknown.
Complicating matters, the government has placed Hawkins under military quarantine, forcing Eleven back into hiding as the group races to stop a darkness more powerful than anything they’ve faced before.
To mark the end of an era, Netflix is planning a Stranger Things celebration across multiple cities. Fans can expect themed bike rides, limited-edition collectibles, immersive pop-ups, and a weeklong run of Stranger Things: The First Shadow on Broadway leading up to the finale.
The release schedule rolls out with four episodes on November 26, followed by three on Christmas Day, and the feature-length finale on New Year’s Eve.
