Keith David is finally getting his star, and his reaction is as wholesome as it gets.

The legendary actor, best known for his iconic roles in classics like There’s Something About Mary, Barbershop, and the voice of Goliath in Gargoyles, shared on social media his genuine surprise at the news that he’ll be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The best part is he didn’t even know it was happening.

In a video posted to TikTok, David sits down casually, only to be met with the announcement.

“What a surprise! Being #blessed to GET to do this for a living is enough for me; to be recognized for my contribution to the arts is the cherry on top,” he shared with fans. “Thank you, #hollywoodwalkoffame & Hollywood Chamber for this honor. A special s/o to my wife, @Dionne Lea – my greatest supporter! This will be a wonderful birthday present next year.”

David turns 70 next June, and the official star unveiling will take place in 2026. His wife, singer and actress Dionne Lea Williams, was right there to deliver the moment, shouting, “Happy 70th birthday!” as the news dropped.

If you know Keith David’s work, you know this star is long overdue. He’s clocked hundreds of roles since his debut in John Carpenter’s The Thing back in 1982 and has remained one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, seamlessly moving between film, TV, theater, and voiceover work.

His collaborators over the years? Just a few casual names: Jordan Peele, Barry Jenkins, Oliver Stone, Hayao Miyazaki, and the Wachowskis.

The star announcement was made by fellow honoree Eugenio Derbez, alongside veteran radio host Richard Blade. David joins an impressive class of 2025 Walk of Fame inductees, including Emily Blunt, Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, Rami Malek, Demi Moore, and Shaquille O’Neal.

For someone who’s played everything from a tough-as-nails soldier to an animated antihero to a no-nonsense dad, this moment is more than a milestone; it’s a tribute to a career that’s been quietly influential for over four decades.

And judging by that TikTok? Keith David is still just getting started.
