Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott continues to strengthen his administration to build on the progress he has already achieved with the appointment of Calvin A. Young III, who will join the Mayor as the city’s new Chief of Staff, effective April 9, 2025.

Young has served as a senior advisor to Mayor Scott since September 2024 and acted as his re-election campaign treasurer from 2023 to 2024. Mayor Scott’s decision to bring Young on board in this strategic role is both a professional and personal choice.

“I’ve known Calvin since our days running high school track and field against each other,” Scott said about the announcement. “His intelligence has taken him everywhere — from the engineering bench to the corporate boardroom, from Harvard to the White House. But above all else, Calvin has always been a proud son of Baltimore. He will lead this office and this City with excellence, talent, and grit.”

Young, who grew up in Northeast Baltimore and was raised by a single mother, is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, New York University, and Harvard Business School. He has dedicated his career to public service, investing, and operations management, spearheading efforts that led to over $100 million in capital investments.

For Young, the opportunity to serve his hometown in such a capacity is not one he takes lightly.

“Serving as Mayor Scott’s chief of staff is the honor of a lifetime,” Young said. “Throughout my career, I have always sought to advance real change for people. Now, I am eager and enthusiastic to bring my dedication home. With falling crime rates, historic investments in our youth, and a growing population, Baltimore is in a renaissance thanks to the work of Brandon Scott. With this administrative team, what is possible for Baltimore is endless.”

Young’s resume is stacked with accomplishments. He is the co-founder of Green Street Impact Partners, a private equity firm providing growth capital to companies in the education sector, and currently serves on several influential boards, including Green Street Academy, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Live Baltimore, and East Baltimore Development, Inc. Additionally, he has served five years on the national executive board of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Young’s appointment comes after Kamau Marshall, a seasoned communications and political strategist with experience as a senior advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign and a former official in the Biden White House, Education Department, and Joe Biden’s successful 2020 presidential campaign, joined Mayor Scott’s administration as Chief Strategist and Chief Communications Officer.

With Mayor Scott’s administration focusing on driving economic growth, expanding educational opportunities, and ensuring public safety, the addition of Young and Marshall demonstrates a clear commitment to bringing the brightest minds to Baltimore’s leadership team.

We look forward to seeing the continued progress of the city of Baltimore.
