Deion Sanders may have done it all—dominating on the football field, excelling in baseball, and now coaching at the collegiate level—but one thing you won’t catch him doing? Dancing in front of America.
During the upcoming episode of We Got Time Today on Tubi, hosted by Sanders and Rocsi Diaz, Super Bowl champion Victor Cruz joined the conversation to discuss the current state of football. During the conversation, Cruz revealed he had turned down an opportunity to be on ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars.
While Cruz admitted he passed on the opportunity early in his career because the show at the time felt geared toward retired athletes like Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith, Sanders made it clear that he was not getting on that DWTS stage.
When Diaz asked Sanders if he would ever consider appearing on Dancing with the Stars, Coach Prime didn’t hesitate:
“They ask me several times. No. Because I’m not a dancer, I’m a mover. I can’t dance,” Sanders said bluntly.
“Because it’s one thing to move in an isolated situation—I could do that—but I’m not a dancer,” Sanders explained.
Even when Diaz reminded him that contestants are trained by professional dancers throughout the competition, Sanders wasn’t having it:
“At this age, I ain’t trying to be taught. I’m not trying to learn in front of America.”
For a man who has built his entire persona on winning, Sanders made it clear that stepping into a dance competition where he might not dominate is simply not an option.
“I want to dominate. I don’t want to learn in front of America. I’m not setting myself up for a loss. I’m a winner, gotta set myself up for a win. I’m not gonna win Dancing with the Stars.”
Sanders’ is super competitive, so it’s no surprise that he refuses to step into an arena where he doesn’t feel like he has the upper hand. While NFL legends like Emmitt Smith (who won Season 3) and Donald Driver (Season 14 winner) have danced their way to victory, Sanders isn’t ready to trade in his coaching headset for sequins and the cha-cha.
The latest episode of We Got Time Today airs on March 11 on Tubi at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT.
