Apple TV+ has officially renewed Severance for a third season, just a day after the heart-pounding Season 2 finale left fans gasping for answers. The series, which started as a cult favorite, has now become Apple TV+’s most-watched show ever during its second season run.

Created by Dan Erickson and directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, Severance follows the eerie and suspenseful story of Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott. The show explores the unsettling consequences of a procedure that separates work life from personal life, known as “severance.”

As Mark’s “outie” continues to grieve the tragic loss of his wife, his “innie” is a compliant worker operating within the cold and manipulative walls of the shadowy biotech company Lumon Industries.

Of course, Lumon’s severance procedure is far more sinister than it initially appears, and Season 2 did not shy away from pushing the boundaries of mystery, intrigue, and corporate horror.

The ensemble cast also includes Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, and Michael Chernus — all of whom deliver stellar performances that keep fans glued to their screens week after week.

During its second season run, Severance broke records for Apple TV+. What initially started as a niche sci-fi show with a dedicated following has now solidified its place as a mainstream phenomenon.

In a previous interview with Variety, Erickson hinted that “a lot is mapped out” for the series’ future and that “there is an endpoint for the series as a whole, and we know more or less how many seasons we are going to do.”

The three-year gap between the first and second seasons of Severance was a test of patience for fans. However, Stiller assured audiences during his appearance on the New Heights podcast that the wait for Season 3 will be much shorter. When asked by Travis Kelce if the audience would have to wait another three years, Stiller replied, “No, no, the plan is not—definitely not. The plan is not, and hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that.”
