An ATL sequel is officially in the works, according to actor and singer Jason Weaver. During a recent interview with GA Follower, Weaver confirmed his involvement in ATL 2, putting an end to years of speculation about the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2006 coming-of-age drama.
When asked about his role in the sequel, Weaver made it clear that he is 100% involved and that the film is actively being developed.
“No, I’m involved…No, no, Teddy gotta be here. I would be sick to my stomach if Teddy wasn’t a part of ATL 2,” Weaver shared.
His comments suggest that his beloved character Teddy will be back alongside the rest of the cast.

Directed by Chris Robinson, ATL was more than just a movie—it was a cultural moment that defined a generation of Atlanta youth. Starring T.I. (Clifford Harris), Lauren London, Evan Ross, Jackie Long, Albert Daniels, and Weaver, the film followed a group of friends navigating life, love, and dreams in Atlanta, with the city’s iconic skating rink culture playing a major role.
Weaver also revealed that ATL originally had a different title and a unique backstory.
“I had a brief conversation with Charlie Mack, who’s Will Smith’s best friend and right-hand man. And for people who don’t know, Will Smith was one of the executive producers of ATL,” Weaver said.
According to Weaver, ATL was initially titled Jellybean, inspired by the real-life skating rink in Southwest Atlanta where music legends like Dallas Austin, OutKast, TLC, and others gathered as kids.
“New New, Lauren’s character, I think is loosely based off of like T-Boz and her personality back then,” Weaver added.
Rumors of a sequel have circulated for years, with director Chris Robinson and cast members teasing fans with behind-the-scenes footage in 2021. However, there has never been an official release date or confirmation—until now.
While details remain under wraps, Weaver’s comments suggest that ATL 2 will stay true to the roots of the original film.
Stay tuned for more updates, because ATL 2 is finally on the way!
