DeVon Franklin is officially off the market! The best-selling author, film producer, and preacher recently popped the question to his girlfriend, celebrity trainer Maria Castillo.
On December 27, 2024, Franklin orchestrated an intimate scenic photo shoot while on a vacation at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua.
Franklin had meticulously planned the proposal, ensuring it was as special as the love he shared with Castillo. Under the guise of a couple’s photoshoot at sunset, Franklin led Castillo to a stunning grassy cliff overlooking the ocean.
“You know, this whole time has really been an engagement photo shoot,” Franklin revealed to PEOPLE, sharing what he told Castillo. Overcome with surprise, she shouted, “Wait!” and “Baby, what are you doing?!” before dropping to the ground in disbelief.
As Franklin got down on one knee, he pulled out a custom engagement ring designed by Carlotta Sarenas and asked Castillo to marry him.
“Finding Maria has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life, so I wanted the proposal to be as special as our love,” Franklin told PEOPLE. “It was truly a magical moment, and I can’t wait to spend a magical life with Maria!”
The couple first met about a year ago, thanks to a mutual friend—trainer Mike Trusdale—who believed Franklin and Castillo would be a perfect match. Trusdale set up a brunch last spring, and the connection between the two was instant. Since then, they have been inseparable.
“I’m still in awe of how it all happened! It was such a beautiful surprise, and I can’t even put into words how happy I am!” Castillo gushed. “To know I’ll be spending the rest of my life with this incredible man is a dream come true. Here’s to forever with the love of my life!”
