Snoop Dogg addressed the backlash over his decision to perform at President Donald Trump’s Inaugural Crypto Ball.

The rapper, 53, posted an Instagram video on Sunday, seemingly responding to criticism.

In the video, Snoop sat in his car listening to the gospel track Ain’t No Need to Worry, and told his followers, “For all the hate, I’m gonna answer it with love. Y’all can’t hate enough on me. I love too much.” He continued, “Get your life right stop worrying about mine. I’m cool, I’m together. Still a Black man. Still 100% Black.”

While Snoop did not explicitly mention the controversy surrounding his performance, fans quickly interpreted the video as a response to the large disappointment from the Black community. Many took to social media to express their frustration, recalling Snoop’s previous vocal opposition to Trump and his administration.

D.L. Hughley did not hold back in his response to Snoop Dogg’s reaction to the criticism. In a video posted on Instagram, Hughley called out the rapper for shifting blame onto the Black community while seemingly ignoring the real sources of division and oppression.

“One of the things [Snoop] pointed out was that we always stick together. We’re good at tearing each other apart, which is pretty constant,” Hughley said. “But that flies in the face of the reality of what’s happening right now. It is not us who are tearing down affirmative action. It is not us who is tearing down DEI. It is not us who are tearing families apart.
It is not us who have decided that affirmative action and rollbacks that have had precedent for 50, 60 years are gone. It is not us that is doing it. It is the man you decided to perform for.to perform for.”

Hughley also pointed out that billionaire Elon Musk played a major role in ridiculing Snoop’s decision. Musk reposted a post on X of a side-by-side comparison of Snoop in 2017 and 2025, with the caption “The vibe shift is real.”

“It wasn’t us who ridiculed you. It was Elon Musk,” Hughley continued. “People are disappointed because they saw you in a specific way.”

Hughley also called out the contradiction between Snoop’s 2017 stance and his current actions. In 2017, Snoop was one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, even featuring a mock execution of a Trump-like character in his music video for Lavender. He also vowed to “ride out” anyone who supported or performed for Trump. Now, in 2025, he finds himself on the receiving end of the same criticism he once dished out.

“Ninety-two percent of Black women voted against this man. Eighty-six percent of Black men voted for [meant against] him. Almost 90 percent of Black people in general voted against him,” Hughley said. “We stuck together. We didn’t try to tear each other apart. We tried to protect each other. And the very man who we knew would do the very things he’s doing, you decided to entertain.”

Hughley wants Snoop to take accountability for his own actions instead of blaming the Black community. “So it isn’t us that you have a problem with; it is you,” he said. “The 2025 version of you is at odds with the 2017 version of you. So it ain’t the us that got to get together; it’s you. You need to have a conversation with the man in the mirror.”

Snoop has yet to directly address Hughley’s comments, but he has continued to post messages of self-assurance and positivity on social media.
