The event, part of his tour celebrating 20 years in music, was so successful that a second date was added due to overwhelming demand.
The lead-up to Brown’s performance was not without controversy. Women For Change, a nonprofit organization, protested his tour date, citing his past legal issues and their concern for the ongoing fight against gender-based violence in South Africa. Despite the backlash, Brown’s shows sold out swiftly.
The FNB Stadium, also known as Soccer City, is South Africa’s largest stadium and ranks as the fourth-largest stadium in the world by seating capacity. Located between Soweto and Johannesburg, the stadium has a capacity of over 94,000.
Brown, visibly moved by the audience’s energy, expressed his gratitude during the concert. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this kind of moment,” he said before performing his hit song Forever. He continued, “This night means a lot to me. I haven’t been out here in a long time, and y’all just let me rock for two and a half hours. I appreciate that.” The crowd responded with thunderous applause and chants of “Breezy.”
