Legendary musician and cultural icon Prince will be posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The announcement, made by the Recording Academy last Friday, continues to honor Prince’s enduring legacy as one of the most innovative and influential artists in music history.
The Special Merit Awards Ceremony, where Prince and other honorees will be celebrated, will take place on February 1, 2025, at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. This event will be held the day before the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 2.
Prince, who passed away in 2016, was a trailblazer whose genre-defying sound and electrifying performances set new standards in the music industry. Over his 40-year career, he won seven Grammy Awards and left an indelible mark with albums like 1999, Purple Rain, and Sign o’ the Times—all of which have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Joining Prince in receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards are Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Roxanne Shanté, and Frankie Valli. The Recording Academy also announced Trustees Awards for Erroll Garner, Glyn Johns, and Tania León, as well as the Technical Grammy Award for Dr. Leo Beranek.
